What are you believing for?

I was having a conversation today about the need for a substantial piece of evidence that a person wanted, in order for them to be sure that they were believing the correct thing. They wanted to know that they were going in the right direction and wanted a ‘sign’ in the shape of a word from someone else, or a vision, or some tangible thing to appear so they would know that this was the correct way.

The writer of Hebrews said that “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”.

That sounds kind of etherial, until you think about it like this.
Do you have faith for this ‘thing’? Do you believe that it will be, is the way you should go, etc? Faith means belief, it’s the same thing.
Do you have faith?

If you look into your heart and can say honestly, “yes” then you have your substantial piece of evidence. Right there, in your heart, is the evidence of the thing as yet unseen.

But bear in mind you will receive that for which you believe, so be sure you know what it is you are believing for.
When you look at the holiday posters of some far off, exotic destination and you say to yourself “I’ll never get to go there” and you feel sad that such a wonderful looking place will never be seen by you, you have just created a belief and now you have faith. You have faith that you will never see that place and you never will. You will receive that for which you have faith.

Where is your faith based?
