Over there

When I started learning Indonesian there was a game the teachers played.
One would say that such and such a thing was over there, another would say “here?”, “no, over there”, “Where?” “there” and so on until we learned the words for ‘here’, ‘there’ and ‘where’.
For some reason I was thinking about this the other day and it brought to mind a passage in 1 Kings 17.

Elijah, a prophet, was told by God that there would be no rain for years, but he was not to worry because God would take care of him.

“And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,
Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.
So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.”

This passage tells us SO much about how God functions and how he wants us to function in relationship with him.
He told Elijah to go to the brook and that he would be fed there. We read this and we think “So, Elijah would go to the brook and then God would send the ravens with food for him”; but that is not what it says. It says that God had arranged with the ravens BEFORE he spoke to Elijah. He had already made provision for Elijah to be fed, when he went to the brook.
The provision did not come BECAUSE Elijah acted, nor did it come HERE, it came THERE.

God has made provision for our health, prosperity and deliverance, but it is THERE, and we have to go THERE to receive it. The place called THERE today is BELIEF.

Some teach that if you will pray long enough God will heal you. If you give enough he will prosper you. This is not true. He made provision for all that we require at the Cross, but we have to go to THERE to receive it, just as Elijah did. If he had remained where he was and awaited the provision, which was already made, he would have starved. Could he then have blamed God? Certainly not! God made provision for him. He spoke to the ravens and told them to feed Elijah, but the feeding was to take place THERE. If Elijah chose to ignore that part of the information he would have stayed HERE and died of hunger.

We have been provided for with all that we require for life and godliness, in the knowledge of him, but we will not have any of it if we do not go to the place where it is, the placed called BELIEF.
It is by faith we receive the grace to be saved, it is by faith that we receive all that “saved” means. We cannot weep and wail and gnash our teeth and beg and plead and hope to receive anything.

Because God is withholding it? NO!
Because we are refusing to go to THERE.

We are in the place of UNBELIEF, which is not the right place. We cannot access in UNBELIEF that is only provided in BELIEF. If the concert you want to hear is in London there is very little point in you going to or staying in Glasgow. You will not hear the concert, they won’t bring it to you. but they are not denying your access, you are refusing to go to where it is being held.
Most people can see how reidiculous it would be to blame the producers or artists for the fact that you did not hear the concert, when you were in the wrong place. Why do we have difficulty when it comes to the things of God?

If he said he has provided us with what we need, all we need to do is believe him and we will see the provision manifest; just as Elijah did when he arrived at the brook Cherith. He didn’t see it one moment earlier, only when we was at the brook, but when we are there it manifest.
Stop believing that you have to do something to get God to act, stop believing that he can be bribed or that he is unjust. Start believing that he has already sent your provision and it is in the place called BELIEF. Go there and see it manifest.
