Becoming an overcomer.

A friend recently posted, on Facebook, “It is IMPOSSIBLE to have faith in a good God if you believe he uses bad things to teach you something”.

This is a commonly held belief. A good God is ‘good’, therefore, he is opposed to everything ‘bad’. He will remove ‘bad’ things or rescue us from ‘bad’ things so that we are always safe and secure.

This is, not only bad theology, it is causing believers to be weak in their faith and subject to every wind of trouble which blows.

A good God will walk with us, teaching as we go, THROUGH bad things. This is how we become overcomers.

Children do not learn to walk by constantly being picked up. They stand on their wobbly legs with a parent just there beside them encouraging them on. With each step they get stronger. In time they can run.

Trees in the middle of a forest are much more susceptible to storm damage than the trees on the edges. This is because they are always sheltered. When a storm comes they cannot stand it and fall over.

If he removed all bad things we would never learn to overcome, as there would be nothing TO overcome.
His own word says,
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they will not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched,
Nor will the flame burn you.” (Isa 43:2)

He does not say that he will remove the water or fire, he says he will walk through them with us.

He will use everything and anything which comes our way to teach us how to walk through storms. He will not produce those things, but he will use them.

Knowing he WILL use bad things to teach us, STRENGTHENS our faith in him, because it tells us we are not alone, we are overcomers,we are becoming stronger with every ‘bad thing’ and the victory is ours.

When tough times are upon you, turn to him and ask, “Lord, what would you teach me now?” He wants you strong and unmovable, not weak and wobbly!
Stop begging for rescue, blaming Satan or complaining and start rising to the challenge.
This is how you become an overcomer!
